For most of us, when we hear layering, we think of clothing. Layering also works with design and display too and you should be implementing layering in your booth if possible.
In design, layering is when you stack design elements upon design elements to keep someone’s eyes moving. The result is a unique space that has texture, depth, interest, and richness. You can layer items with similar or mixed elements of color, texture, pattern, shapes, or style to help give the space more depth.
When stacking, you’re creating a visual interest. You’ll be able to maximize the amount of merchandise you place in a vignette by using more vertical spaces and not just horizontal. It makes for an appealing focal point that’s easily shoppable.
Take a look at these two images. With the one on the left, when you look at it, there is no focal point. Your eyes don’t know where to look. Now take a look at the image on the right. Your eyes go straight to the stacked vignette and you follow it from the top to the bottom, right?
By adding this depth and height, it’s hard for customers to make a quick pass though your space if they can’t see it all at once. Stacking and layering draws the customer in and excites them when they see items used in an usual way.
If you do decide to stack items, here are some more tips to help implement stacking in your booth.
-Stack your items safely. Don’t make it that when an item is removed from the stack it all tumbles down. We don’t want anyone to get injured.
-Make sure to cover your furniture, especially painted furniture, with a table runner, fabric, etc…before stacking anything on top of it.
